Rick Scott calls for Venezuelan elections within one year

U.S. Senator Rick Scott has stated that Venezuela should hold elections within the next year, emphasizing that opposition leader María Corina Machado must be allowed to return to the country and participate in the process. Scott outlined three essential conditions for free and fair elections: the release of political prisoners, an end to pressure on political actors, and an electoral system that guarantees fair competition.

Henry Alviarez, coordinator for Vente Venezuela, echoed the importance of Machado's involvement, stating that her return represents a sign of hope for those seeking political change. Alviarez argued that a democratic process would not be viable if the country's primary political figure remains disqualified or excluded, noting that any attempts to limit her leadership could backfire by strengthening her political structure.
