Rick Springfield reveals killing a man during Vietnam War

Australian singer-songwriter Rick Springfield revealed during an appearance on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ that he was involved in a fatal incident during the Vietnam War. In 1968, while still a teenager, Springfield traveled to Vietnam with his band, MPD Ltd., to perform for U.S. troops.

Springfield recounted that while staying at a Navy encampment near Da Nang, the base came under attack. During the skirmish, he was in a radio shack and was asked to help fire mortars. He described the experience as feeling like a movie, noting that as a young person, he did not fully grasp the gravity of the situation. The following day, he was informed that one of the mortars he had fired had killed a Viet Cong fighter.

The 77-year-old musician expressed that the memory remains a heavy burden that he has struggled to process for nearly six decades. He noted that the incident is something he has previously detailed in his 2010 memoir, ‘Late, Late at Night’.
