Rick Tocchet apologizes for public criticism of Matvei Michkov

Philadelphia Flyers coach Rick Tocchet has admitted that his public criticism of Matvei Michkov last season went too far. Reflecting on the tension between the coach and the 21-year-old Russian forward, Tocchet acknowledged that his repeated comments regarding Michkov’s conditioning were unnecessary and expressed a desire to take them back.

Michkov faced a challenging sophomore season, characterized by a dip in production and reduced ice time during the playoffs, partly due to an ankle injury. Tocchet noted that the situation served as a learning lesson for both parties.
