Ricoh to release RICOH360 THETA A1 standalone camera

Ricoh has announced that it will begin selling the RICOH360 THETA A1, a 360-degree camera designed for field use, as a standalone unit starting November 17 in Japan. While previously offered primarily in combination with RICOH360 cloud services and support, the new standalone option allows individuals and organizations to integrate the hardware with their own existing construction management apps, inspection tools, or proprietary systems.

The RICOH360 THETA A1 is the first in the THETA series to feature IP64-rated dust and water resistance. It is engineered to operate in harsh environments, including areas with light rain, splashes, dust, extreme heat, and low temperatures. Notably, the device can maintain stable, long-term recording while connected to power in temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, addressing common issues with heat-related shutdowns during outdoor construction or concrete pouring.

Key technical features include internal image stitching and tilt correction, allowing users to save and share images in standard JPEG and MP4 formats without additional software. The camera also includes built-in GPS and an electronic compass to record location data automatically. Following the initial Japanese launch via Ricoh’s EC site and retailers, the company plans to expand sales to international markets through regional distributors.
