Ride-hailing platforms 99 and Uber expand services in Brazil

The ride-hailing company 99 revealed technical details regarding its dispatch and pricing algorithms during the 99Tech Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The platform utilizes 248 filters to determine driver assignments and recalculates trip values every two minutes based on supply and demand. Factors influencing driver selection include proximity, estimated time to pickup, vehicle direction, and the probability of acceptance. The system also monitors driver behavior, such as acceptance and refusal patterns, to adjust request distribution.

Pricing is determined through a three-stage process: a base fare calculated via distance, time, and demographic references; regional adjustments using hexagonal area mapping; and dynamic pricing to balance vehicle availability during high-demand periods.

Meanwhile, Uber has launched 'Entre Cidades' in Brazil, a new intercity service connecting Rio de Janeiro with Cabo Frio, Angra dos Reis, and Petrópolis. The feature allows for immediate requests or reservations up to 90 days in advance. To ensure transparency, the upfront price includes tolls and fees. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, drivers must maintain a minimum rating of 4.85 to participate in this specific category.
