Ride‑hailing robberies in Buenos Aires and Viña del Mar lead to arrests and sentencing

In Buenos Aires, Argentine prosecutors have asked a court to summon a driver of the InDrive ride‑hailing app for alleged theft of a newly‑wed couple’s luggage, including a wedding dress, suit, bank cards and personal items. The incident occurred on 20 October 2025 when the driver allegedly seized the luggage after the passengers opened the trunk at an intersection. The prosecutor’s request seeks a preliminary hearing for a charge of theft punishable by one month to two years in prison.

In Viña del Mar, Chilean courts sentenced two men to a combined 15 years in prison for violent robberies linked to a ride‑hailing driver and a couple with a seven‑month‑old infant. One defendant received a sentence of 10 years and 1 day, the other 5 years and 1 day, both with additional penalties and DNA registration. The convictions were based on evidence gathered by the Fiscalía’s Criminal Analysis System, including video, witness testimony and forensic material.
