Cruz Pérez Cuéllar faces scrutiny after rodeo accident and permit violations

A rodeo held at Arena Tierra Vieja in Chihuahua resulted in a rider being seriously injured during a bull-related event. The incident has sparked a political controversy involving Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, the licensed Mayor of Ciudad Juárez and a Morena aspirant for the governorship of Chihuahua.

Authorities, including Chihuahua State Secretary Santiago De la Peña Grajeda and Chihuahua City Mayor Marco Bonilla, have stated that the event lacked the necessary municipal and state permits, including those for civil protection and alcohol sales. Reports from attendees indicate a lack of medical services, specifically noting the absence of an ambulance, which forced the injured rider to be transported in a pickup truck.

While some reports suggest the event was organized by supporters to promote Pérez Cuéllar's political image, his spokesperson, Ángel Zubia, denied that the politician organized the rodeo, claiming he was merely an invited guest. Mayor Bonilla has rejected claims of political persecution, asserting that laws regarding mass gatherings must be applied equally regardless of political affiliation.
