Rideshare driver targeted by phone scam in Carencro

A rideshare driver in Carencro, Louisiana, lost a $120 app wallet balance to a sophisticated phone scam. According to a BBB Scam Tracker report, the driver was contacted by callers posing as support representatives while a delivery was in progress.

The scammers claimed a scheduled delivery had been canceled and that compensation was being processed. A second caller then instructed the driver to add an unfamiliar card to the in-app wallet to resolve a perceived deposit issue. Once the card was added, the driver's entire balance was immediately stolen.

BBB of Acadiana is warning regional drivers that scammers often use real account or delivery activity to establish legitimacy. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center has noted a similar national pattern where callers posing as support staff trick drivers into granting account access to drain their earnings.
