Ridley Scott calls 'The Dog Stars' his best film since 'The Martian

Ridley Scott says his upcoming post‑apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars is the strongest movie he has made since The Martian. Speaking ahead of the film’s premiere, the 88‑year‑old director praised the project as “probably the best movie I’ve done since The Martian,” and singled out lead actor Jacob Elordi as a future star. The film adapts Peter Heller’s novel, depicting a world ravaged by a pandemic where former civilian pilot Hig (Elordi) survives in an abandoned airport with his dog and ex‑Marine companion Bangley, played by Josh Brolin. Supporting actors include Margaret Qualley, Allison Janney, Guy Pearce and Benedict Wong. Scott also serves as a producer alongside Michael Pruss, Cliff Roberts and screenwriter Mark L. Smith. The Dog Stars will be released by 20th Century Studios in theatres on August 28, 2026.
