Ridley Scott’s latest post-apocalyptic film, ‘The Dog Stars’, has experienced a significant box office failure. Starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, the production—estimated to cost between $70 million and $110 million—struggled during its opening, earning approximately $8 million to $9 million domestically. The film saw a 77% decline in its second Friday, earning only $700,000.

Critical reception has been largely negative, with the film holding a 40% score on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving a C+ CinemaScore. Critics have described the film as having thematic sprawl and lacking the profundity of Scott’s earlier science-fiction works like ‘Blade Runner’.

This performance adds to a recent string of financial disappointments for the veteran director, including ‘Gladiator II’, ‘Napoleon’, and ‘House of Gucci’. In contrast, the film ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ outperformed ‘The Dog Stars’ at the box office, debuting with $15.9 million.
