Ridley Scott rejects Tarantino's praise of Black Hawk Down

Director Quentin Tarantino has named Ridley Scott’s 2001 war film, ‘Black Hawk Down’, as the best movie released so far in the 21st century. Tarantino shared this ranking as part of a top 20 list on Bret Easton Ellis’s podcast, placing the film ahead of titles such as ‘Toy Story 3’, ‘Lost in Translation’, and ‘There Will Be Blood’. Tarantino noted that while he did not initially connect with the film, he now considers it a masterpiece due to its visual ambition and immersive depiction of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu.

Ridley Scott expressed disagreement with the accolade during an interview with The Times. Responding with humor to the praise, Scott joked about wanting to know what Tarantino was drinking to reach such a conclusion, but he flatly denied that his film is the best of the century.

In the same interview, Scott criticized the current state of Hollywood, citing an increasing homogeneity in storytelling. He argued that the industry relies too heavily on repetitive tropes, such as superhero narratives and crime stories, suggesting a need for more diverse storytelling.
