Ridley Scott returns to Alien franchise to continue prequel storyline

Director Ridley Scott has announced he is returning to the ‘Alien’ franchise to rewrite and direct a new installment. Scott described the most recent release, ‘Alien: Romulus’ directed by Fede Álvarez, as merely ‘ok’ or ‘passable,’ suggesting the series needs further assistance.

Scott intends to continue the narrative arc established in his previous entries, ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Alien: Covenant.’ This direction focuses on the android character David, portrayed by Michael Fassbender, effectively aiming to conclude his prequel trilogy. This move has sparked debate among fans, as many had hoped for a direct continuation of the story established in ‘Romulus.’

In addition to the plot developments, Scott expressed interest in exploring themes of uncontrollable artificial intelligence, noting that the concept of AI derailing and causing global chaos is a frightening prospect for the genre.
