Ridley Scott's Treasure Island film secured with Sony and Hugh Jackman

Sony Pictures has agreed to finance director Ridley Scott’s new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island. The project will feature Hugh Jackman in a prominent pirate role, reported to be Long John Silver, with a screenplay by Jack Thorne.

The film follows Scott’s recent work on Gladiator II and The Dog Stars, and Sony’s involvement comes after other studios, including 20th Century Studios, passed on the financing. The studio plans a major worldwide release, positioning the movie as a flagship adventure title for the coming years.
