Rietberg officials propose abandoning planned relief road project
The city of Rietberg plans to abandon the long-term project for a relief road between Rottwiese and Konrad-Adenauer-Straße. Mayor Andreas Sunder has proposed to the urban development and planning committee that the project should no longer be pursued.
The decision follows difficulties in coordinating a revised route with technical authorities and local landowners. Following a 2023 environmental impact study, a new route (Variant 1a) was proposed, affecting different properties than the original plan. Most affected landowners have expressed no interest in selling their land to the city.
Mayor Sunder stated that if the necessary land acquisition is not feasible, it makes no sense to continue with the construction of the L 782n bypass. Consequently, the city intends to terminate the 2020 administrative agreement with the state agency Landesbetrieb Straßen. NRW and halt the ongoing changes to the land-use and development plans.
