Rifondazione Comunista forms Senate component in Italy

The Partito della Rifondazione Comunista – Sinistra Europea has officially established a component within the Italian Senate. National Secretary Maurizio Acerbo stated that this recognition will reduce the number of signatures required for the party to present its lists in upcoming elections.

Acerbo credited several political figures for their assistance in the process, including Senator Andrea Crisanti, regional counselor Furio Honsell, Democratic Party leader Elly Schlein, and Senate President Ignazio La Russa. He also noted collaboration with Peppe De Cristofaro, the group leader for Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra.

Despite this development, Acerbo criticized the current electoral law, describing it as undemocratic and unconstitutional due to the high number of signatures required for parties not currently represented in Parliament. The party has signed appeals against the electoral law, which are scheduled to be presented to Italian courts of appeal on Monday, October 26.
