Riga launches free leaf collection service

The Riga City Council has established 33 locations across the city where residents can free of charge drop off collected tree and shrub leaves. The collection period runs from today until November 22.

Most collection points will operate primarily on weekends, though certain locations, such as the Torņakalns point at Uzvaras bulvāris 16A, will also be open on weekdays. One previously used location in Ziepniekkalni has been removed this year due to low resident activity and parking difficulties.

Residents are instructed not to leave leaves outside of designated operating hours or in bags. Leaves must be poured directly into provided containers or specialized waste collection vehicles and must not be mixed with other types of waste, such as furniture, construction debris, or household trash. Empty bags must be taken away by the residents.
