Riga police chase ends in crash involving a Ford and an Audi

On the early morning of 29 July 2026, Riga municipal police received a call to a fuel station where a driver in a white Ford behaved aggressively. When officers approached, the driver ignored their questions and fled, prompting a high‑speed pursuit involving both municipal and Latvian State Police units. The suspect repeatedly refused orders to stop, entered a side street, and later collided with a State Police vehicle before striking an Audi that was traveling ahead.

Both the Ford driver and the Audi driver suffered injuries and were taken to hospital. Initial tests showed no alcohol in the Ford driver’s blood, with a toxicology screen pending. Police have opened a criminal investigation for failing to obey stop orders and administrative proceedings for the traffic violations. During the investigation, ten packs of untaxed cigarettes were found in the police‑used Audi, leading to a separate administrative case.

The incident has drawn public attention in the Mežciems district, with witnesses describing sirens, loud noises and a chaotic scene.
