Riga police report underage alcohol access and adult complicity

The Riga Municipal Police have reported concerning findings regarding underage alcohol access following a series of 50 controlled purchase tests. While some retailers were found to be selling alcohol to minors for profit, officials noted a more troubling trend involving adults on the street.

Andrejs Aronovs, Deputy Chief of the Riga Municipal Police, stated that five adults on the street agreed to purchase alcohol for a minor upon request. Aronovs emphasized that law enforcement must focus more on adult responsibility, noting that children depend on the accountability of the adults around them.

In addition to alcohol enforcement, police monitored student safety during the start of the school year. While most children reached school safely, officers recorded 128 traffic violations near 30km/h speed limit zones, highlighting concerns regarding speeding in school areas.
