Riga to host Namejs 2026 military exercises
The active phase of the ‘Namejs 2026’ military exercises will take place in Riga from September 16 to September 20. The drills will involve the movement of Latvian and allied forces, the National Guard, and military equipment throughout the city.
Activities include the establishment of training checkpoints and anti-mobility obstacles, as well as flights by military and unmanned aerial vehicles. The Riga City Council has noted that these activities are pre-planned elements of the exercises and do not pose a real threat. Residents should expect potential temporary traffic and movement restrictions.
Intensive training is scheduled for several neighborhoods, including Brasas, Teika, Mežciems, Bolderāja, and Daugavgrīva. Exercises will also focus on protecting critical infrastructure, such as the ‘Daugavgrīva’ biological treatment station, involving both soldiers and the National Guard.
