Riga tram collides with cargo van, five injured

A heavy collision occurred at the intersection of Slokas and Dammes streets in Riga when a city tram operated by Rīgas satiksme struck a cargo van. The impact caused significant damage to the tram's front and shattered its windshield.

Five people were injured in the crash. Two victims were taken to hospitals with moderate injuries, while the remaining three did not require further medical treatment. Emergency services, including ambulance crews, firefighters and the State Police of Latvia, responded to the scene. Traffic on the 1‑route tram line toward the city centre was disrupted and the trams were temporarily rerouted to Iļģuciems before returning to the usual route.

Rīgas satiksme spokesperson Baiba Bartaševiča‑Feldmane confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
