Riga water main flushing to cause potential turbidity and outages

Riga water utility company, ‘Rīgas ūdens’, is conducting flushing operations on a 5.2 km section of the main water pipeline from the Langstiņi turnoff to the Jugla river discharge point. The work is scheduled to take place from 9:00 on Tuesday, October 27, until 8:00 on Friday, October 30.

During this period, residents in Jugla, Teika, Čiekurkalns, and Berģi may experience turbid water. Additionally, water supply will be temporarily interrupted in Langstiņi (Garkalnes parish) and parts of Upesciems from 9:00 on October 27 until 22:00 on October 28.

The preventive maintenance aims to maintain high drinking water quality and ensure a stable supply by preventing sediment buildup. The utility noted that while the annual goal of flushing 360 km of pipes has been met, warm weather has allowed for continued work. The company clarified that any white-colored water caused by air saturation is safe for use and poses no health risks.
