Rigathi Gachagua accuses Ruto of attempting to divide Mt Kenya

Political tensions are escalating in Kenya as opposition leaders challenge President William Ruto’s administration ahead of the 2027 General Election. Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has accused the President of attempting to fragment the Mt Kenya region. Gachagua specifically alleged that Ruto is using Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to create political divisions between the eastern and western parts of the region to weaken its collective bargaining power.

Gachagua further criticized the government for the resurgence of toxic brews in the Mt Kenya area, claiming the administration is allowing their sale to undermine youth. He vowed to protect the region's political unity and warned that allies of the President in the area would be voted out.

Simultaneously, Jubilee Presidential Aspirant Fred Matiang'i has called for the resignation of President Ruto and his administration. Speaking in Meru County, Matiang'i cited a failure to maintain national security, specifically pointing to rising gang violence and lawlessness. He argued that the government has failed in its constitutional duty to protect citizens and urged residents to vote the current administration out of office in the next election.
