Rigathi Gachagua alleges rigged election system procurement

Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), has alleged that the Kenyan government is attempting to manipulate the upcoming General Election through a rigged procurement process. Gachagua claims that the selection of South Korean firm Miru Systems Co Ltd to provide the Integrated Elections Management System (IEMS) has been predetermined.

The IEMS is intended to manage voter registration, candidate registration, voter verification, and results transmission. While the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recently advertised the tender, the commission has since suspended the proceedings following a challenge at the Public Procurement Administration Review Board. The challenge alleges that the tender specifications were specifically designed to favor Miru Systems.
