Rigathi Gachagua offers to deputise Edwin Sifuna for 2027 elections

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed willingness to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions for the 2027 Kenyan elections. Speaking to a Kenyan diaspora gathering in Spokane, Washington, Gachagua stated he is open to serving as Sifuna’s running mate if the opposition reaches a consensus on a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto.

Gachagua defended Sifuna against criticisms regarding his age, arguing that young leaders are the leaders of today and should not be sidelined. He noted that other global leaders have been elected at similar or younger ages. Gachagua also mentioned that he remains open to supporting other contenders, such as Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, provided they can secure the electorate's backing.

Separately, People’s Party leader Ndindi Nyoro has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidency under an opposition coalition. Nyoro expressed confidence in his ability to defeat President Ruto, citing his track record of local development. Nyoro also dismissed allegations from within the opposition that he is acting as a mole for the current administration, asserting that he is finished with the President and intends to work solely with the opposition.
