Right-wing parties see electoral breakthroughs across Europe

Right-wing and nationalist parties are experiencing significant electoral gains across several European nations. In Germany, the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) has secured notable victories in regional elections, including in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The party has emerged as a major force, finishing second in the February 2025 legislative elections.

Other regional trends include the dominance of the Freedom Party (FPÖ) in Austria and the Swiss People's Party (SVP) in Switzerland. In France, the National Rally has become the largest single party in the lower house, with Marine Le Pen positioned as a leading figure for future presidential elections.

In Italy, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government, supported by a coalition including the League and Forza Italia, has maintained significant political longevity. These shifts are often characterized by platforms focusing on anti-immigration stances, social conservatism, and nationalist policies.
