The Capital Region of Denmark has launched an external investigation into the Department of Transplantation and Digestive Diseases at Rigshospitalet. This follows the departure of five doctors, including three senior consultants who left after signing a letter expressing concerns regarding patient safety and acute staffing shortages.

Politicians have raised questions regarding whether the doctors were sanctioned for their criticism of the department's management style. Christoffer Buster Reinhardt, chair of the Region Hovedstaden Health Committee, emphasized that public employees must be guaranteed freedom of speech.

While Region Council Chairman Lars Gaardhøj expressed confidence in the hospital's leadership and its recruitment plans, he acknowledged that the situation indicates a challenged working environment. To maintain capacity during this period, Rigshospitalet has established agreements with other hospitals in Denmark and the Nordic region to assist if necessary.
