Rigsrevisionen finds errors in Danish cancer patient waiting times

A follow-up investigation by Rigsrevisionen has revealed discrepancies regarding maximum waiting times for cancer patients in Denmark. In a sample of 50 patient cases, the audit found several instances where waiting time regulations were violated, exceeding the number of breaches previously reported by the regions to the Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen).

Danske Regioner has responded by emphasizing that all breaches must be registered. Christoffer Buster Reinhardt, chair of the Health Committee for Danske Regioner, stated that patient rights are a “crucial cornerstone” and that the organization takes the findings seriously.

The audit also highlighted that current regulations are unclear in several areas, which may make it difficult for medical personnel to register patient courses correctly. This complexity has been described by regional representatives as being akin to a “jungle.”
