Rihanna and A$AP Rocky Survive AR‑15 Attack; Suspect Declared Competent for Trial

On March 8, 2026 a woman identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, of Orlando, Florida, fired an AR‑15‑style rifle at Rihanna’s Beverly Crest residence in Los Angeles. The shooter discharged at least a dozen rounds at an Airstream trailer where Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three children, Rihanna’s mother and two staff members were staying. No one was injured. Rihanna told police she heard “loud sounds like something banging on metal,” saw bullet holes in the trailer’s windshield, woke Rocky and pushed him to the ground, saying, “They shooting at us.”

Ortiz was arrested nearby, found with the rifle and two 30‑round magazines, and now faces more than a dozen felony counts, including attempted murder. In a Los Angeles County Superior Court hearing, her public defender sought a competency evaluation. Judge Shannon Cooley ruled there was “not substantial evidence of incompetence,” stating that a competency hearing “is mandated only if there’s objective evidence of a defendant’s incompetence,” and set a probable‑cause hearing for May 19. Ortiz has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on a $1.875 million bail.

The case continues to draw extensive media coverage as details of the shooting and the legal proceedings emerge.
