Riikka Purra defends Finnish government's 2027 budget proposal
Finnish Finance Minister Riikka Purra has presented the government's 2027 budget proposal to Parliament, defending the administration's economic direction despite criticism from opposition parties.
Purra highlighted positive economic indicators, noting that employment has risen by over 30,000 people compared to last year and unemployment has decreased. She emphasized that the government's policies are designed to be entrepreneur-friendly and will result in lower income taxes for various wage brackets, aiming to put “more money in the hands of the worker.” The budget includes 4.8 billion euros in direct spending cuts and nearly one billion euros in measures to curb debt.
Opposition members have criticized the proposal, arguing it favors the wealthy at the expense of the poor. Critics, including representatives from the Centre Party and the Left Alliance, questioned the government's commitment to reducing public debt and warned that the budget could weaken the public finances by 350 million euros.
