Rijeka and Switzerland linked through Morčić and Morin jewelry project

The cultural project ‘Morčić / Morin – Bridge between Sea and Mountains’ has been presented in Rijeka, exploring the historical and symbolic connections between the Croatian ‘Morčić’ and the Swiss ‘Morin’. Hosted by the Helvetia Swiss-Croatian Friendship Association, the initiative links the Croatian coast with the Swiss canton of Graubünden and the Engadin region.

Both symbols represent traditional gold and enamel jewelry motifs. Local jeweler and moretist Gion Antoni noted that the history of the Morčić dates back to the 13th century, originally serving as jewelry for firstborn sons before becoming a female adornment in the 15th century. The project aims to foster further cultural cooperation and research between Croatia and Switzerland through shared heritage and art.
