Rijeka Central Market hosts Croatian Markets Days and World Food Day
The Rijeka Central Market recently hosted the 15th Croatian Markets Days and World Food Day as part of the “Go Local and Healthy to the Market” event. Organized by the Association of Croatian Markets in collaboration with Rijeka plus and Komunalac Koprivnica, the two-day program focused on promoting local food, supporting domestic producers, and reducing food waste.
Rijeka Mayor Iva Rinčić emphasized the importance of the market as a vital meeting point for citizens and producers, noting that the city is proud to host such an event. Vlado Mezak, Director of Rijeka plus, announced upcoming developments for the market, including the imminent opening of Pavilion 1, which will feature new gastronomic facilities designed to revitalize the space.
Miljenko Ernoić, Secretary of the Association of Croatian Markets, highlighted the environmental and economic benefits of local food, noting that shorter supply chains result in less packaging and a smaller environmental footprint. The initiative aims to help consumers easily identify certified Croatian products and preserve indigenous food varieties.
