Rijeka court fines man for dog-related assault
The Municipal Court in Rijeka has fined a 25-year-old Serbian national, M. B., a total of 900 euros following an incident in July 2025. The individual was found to have been in an intoxicated and drugged state while walking two aggressive Staffordshire Bull Terriers without leashes in a crowded area near the Continental Hotel.
The situation escalated when a local official, who was walking a smaller dog, attempted to protect her pet. According to court findings, the man pushed the woman to the ground and struck her on the back of the head while shouting, ‘Give me that dog, you must give it to me!’
The court issued a 200 euro fine for the negligent handling of the dogs and a 700 euro fine for the particularly brazen disturbance of public order and peace. The ruling was issued based on witness testimonies without a formal hearing.
