Rijeka e-bike study explores urban mobility and tourism potential

A study conducted in Rijeka, Croatia, examines the role of electric bicycles in local and regional development. The research, involving economics students from the University of Rijeka, explores how e-bikes might support sustainable transport and the local economy, particularly in a city with challenging topography and a car-oriented mobility culture.

While the surveyed students do not currently use traditional or electric bicycles for daily urban mobility, they expressed positive or indifferent attitudes toward e-bike development. The study highlights that students see the greatest potential for e-bikes within the tourism sector. However, several barriers to widespread adoption were identified, including concerns regarding road safety, vandalism, weather conditions, and insufficient bicycle infrastructure.
