Rijeka Gateway labor negotiations fail over wage increases
Collective bargaining negotiations between the Union of Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia (SIKD) and the management of Rijeka Gateway have concluded without an agreement. The dispute centers on the company’s refusal to grant a 15 percent linear wage increase for its approximately 420 employees.
Negotiations, which began in February, aimed to establish the company’s first collective agreement. While the union reported making several concessions and proposing gradual increases, SIKD President Vedran Sabljak stated that the employer’s counteroffer for base salary increases was effectively zero percent. The management has instead proposed adjusting bonuses, allowances, and individual performance-based increments rather than uniform raises.
The union has initiated a conciliation process to seek a resolution. If this fails, SIKD representatives indicated that further industrial actions, including potential strikes, remain an option.
