Rijeka hosts international conference on child rights and protection

An international conference titled ‘Child at the Center of the System – Right to Information, Protection, and Support’ was held at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka. The event brought together approximately 150 experts from various sectors, including the judiciary, police, healthcare, social welfare, education, academia, and civil society.

The discussions focused on ensuring children understand their rights and the legal processes they encounter, particularly when participating as victims, witnesses, or children in conflict with the law. Key topics included the European framework for child rights protection, age-appropriate communication, and the challenges faced by children with speech and language impairments.

Participants also addressed the need for inter-agency cooperation to provide timely and understandable information to vulnerable groups. The conference also touched upon modern forms of violence, such as online harassment and internet-based abuse. This event marks the beginning of a series of activities, with a follow-up conference scheduled for October 15 focused on child well-being.
