Rijeka hosts launch of Peaceful Rain international peace initiative

The Peaceful Rain initiative, an international and interreligious movement dedicated to promoting peace through concrete actions, was officially presented in Rijeka, Croatia. The initiative emphasizes personal responsibility, suggesting that peace is built through many small, individual acts rather than through mere declarations.

The movement originated from the Mediterranean Theological Encounters in Lovran, themed ‘Prophesying peace surrounded by the noise of war: Peacemaking in an era of militarism’. Its foundation, the Mediterranean Peace Alliance, includes ten obligations calling for the rejection of violence, the building of dialogue, solidarity, and facing one's own history.

Participants in the presentation included Archbishop Mate Uzinić, Mufti Aziz ef. Hasanović of the Islamic Community in Croatia, and Metropolitan Grigorije Durić of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Other contributors included Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe, evangelical deaconess Melanie Ivančević, and Croatian Ombudsman Tena Šimonović Einwalter. The alliance is open to all individuals regardless of religious, national, or worldview affiliations.
