Rijeka prepares for new season with returning players and transfer targets
Croatian club HNK Rijeka, under coach Matjaž Kek, is gearing up for the 2023‑24 season. The squad will feature returning midfielder Niko Janković and possible returnee forward Toni Fruk, while new signings include striker Jakov Puljić, midfielder Ivan Ćubelić and wing‑back Yusuf Kabadayi on loan with an option to buy.
Kek is also evaluating goalkeeping options, with Slovene international Igor Vekić mentioned as a target and domestic contenders Aleksa Todorović and David Nwolokor featuring in recent friendlies. Defensive reinforcements are a priority, with talks about acquiring a stopper or left‑back.
Rijeka will play a closed‑door pre‑season friendly against Slovenian second‑division side Jadran Dekani, followed by the league‑opening match on 23 July against Derry City (or CSKA Sofia in the Conference League). Ticket prices for the friendly are set at €10 for adults and €5 for children.
