Rijeka's 3. Maj shipyard launches restructuring plan to reach break‑even
The 3. Maj shipyard in Rijeka, which became part of the Iskra Group in March, is undertaking an organisational restructuring after a period of losses. The facility now works at less than half its former capacity, with only 130 production workers out of a total workforce of about 430 employees.
Management, led by board president Roko Vuletić, aims to achieve an "operational zero" – breaking even on a monthly basis – within the first year and to operate without any state subsidies or interventions. The restructuring focuses on streamlining processes, reducing administrative overhead, and accelerating production.
Current work includes the construction of the polar cruise ship Icon for the Scenic Group, scheduled for delivery in mid‑December, and the continuation of several smaller projects. Two river‑cruise vessels intended for the Portuguese market are on hold pending new regulatory approvals, with construction expected to start before year‑end. About thirty employees have left voluntarily; no large‑scale layoffs are planned, though a modest reduction in support staff is foreseen.
