Rikke Iversen excluded from Danish handball national team

Handball expert Peter Bruun Jørgensen has expressed confusion regarding the exclusion of Rikke Iversen from Helle Thomsen’s latest Danish national team selection. Despite the Team Esbjerg pivot stating she is 100 percent ready, she was omitted from the squad.

Jørgensen noted that Iversen provides unique value as a two-way player, offering both central defensive stability and offensive contributions from the pivot position. This is particularly relevant as Denmark seeks to rebuild the defensive foundation that faltered during their recent exit against France in the quarter-finals. While players like Line Haugsted, Stine Eiberg, and Anne Mette Hansen are considered for the central 6-0 defense, Iversen’s ability to link defense and attack through her partnership with Haugsted is seen as a missed opportunity for the squad.
