Rilland residents face weeks of mail delivery disruptions

Residents of the Dutch village Rilland have reported significant disruptions to mail delivery, with some individuals waiting up to three weeks for letters, bills, and magazines. The issues include missing mail, incorrect deliveries, and items marked as delivered that cannot be found.

The service breakdown follows changes implemented by PostNL, which merged or closed smaller depots to accommodate a new delivery standard of two working days. In Rilland, the local depot was closed, requiring carriers to travel to Krabbendijke. This increased travel time and logistical challenges reportedly led to the simultaneous departure of three regular local delivery workers.

PostNL has acknowledged receiving reports regarding the inadequate service in Rilland and stated they are working on a solution. The company noted that extra travel time required for collection is considered working time and is compensated.
