Rima Hassan files complaint after death threat video

European Parliament member Rima Hassan has filed a complaint in Paris following the publication of a video on Instagram containing death threats. In the footage, an individual is seen holding a shotgun and pointing it toward the camera while issuing threats against the La France insoumise politician.

Hassan’s lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, stated that the complaint includes charges of death threats against an elected official and provocation to commit crimes against life or integrity. The legal team is seeking the identification of the individual behind the account @aux_armes_citoyen and the immediate removal of the content from social media platforms.

The incident follows accusations made against Hassan regarding the handling of Israeli and European flags during an event at the European Parliament dedicated to the October 7, 2023, attacks. Hassan has contested these accusations, stating that an accidental fall of a flag occurred. The video was posted by an account described in the legal complaint as promoting xenophobic and pro-violence content.
