Rimas Kurtinaitis resigns as Lithuania men's basketball head coach

Rimas Kurtinaitis has resigned from his position as the head coach of the Lithuanian men's national basketball team. His entire coaching staff is also stepping down. Kurtinaitis stated that he believes now is the appropriate time to depart to allow a new coaching collective sufficient time to prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifying window.

Kurtinaitis led the team for nearly two years, including a fifth-place finish at the European Championship. The Lithuanian team currently holds fourth place in their qualifying group with four wins after eight games. They have four matches remaining, including games against Serbia, Turkey, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Lithuanian Basketball Association will select a new head coach following the election of a new association president. This process is expected to be completed before the start of the next qualifying window. Additionally, association leader Mindaugas Balčiūnas has stepped down from his duties, handing powers to vice-president Remigijus Milašius.
