Rimini bans hunting near Marecchia River cycling path

Rimini Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad has signed an urgent ordinance banning hunting in areas immediately adjacent to the Marecchia River's historical-natural path. The measure, effective from September 1, 2026, until January 31, 2027, aims to ensure the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and families using the route.

The ban applies to a 50-meter strip on both sides of the path between the Statale 16 highway and the municipal border. Within this zone, both roaming hunting and temporary blinds are prohibited, though fixed blinds previously authorized by the Region remain permitted. Hunters must also keep weapons unloaded within this 50-meter buffer.

Additionally, shooting is prohibited outside the buffer zone if the trajectory could affect the cycling-pedestrian path, and individuals are forbidden from traversing the track with loaded firearms. The decision follows previous incidents where hunting activities caused danger or tension with those engaged in sports, recreation, or educational activities along the river, which is a key part of the Emilia-Romagna regional cycling network (ER33) and the national Bicitalia network.
