Rimini construction accident: 59-year-old man dies after scaffolding fall

A 59-year-old man, identified as Saim Myrtaj, died on Monday afternoon after falling from scaffolding at a construction site in the Rivabella area of Rimini, Italy. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM while Myrtaj was working on the second level of a scaffold attached to a two-story building undergoing maintenance.

Preliminary findings suggest Myrtaj may have fallen through a gap in the platform used to transition between levels, dropping several meters onto the terrace of a first-floor apartment. A local resident alerted authorities after hearing the impact.

The Rimini Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into manslaughter due to negligence. Authorities have seized the scaffolding to inspect its structure, safety systems, and compliance with height-work regulations. Investigators are also examining whether the fall was caused by a loss of balance, a sudden health issue, or inadequate safety equipment. The victim's employer, a local construction company owner, has been questioned. Myrtaj, an Albanian national who had lived in Rimini since the early 2000s, is survived by his wife and two children.
