Roberta Metsola urges EU unity at Rimini Meeting
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola addressed the Rimini Meeting, stating that European Union member states must choose between leading global change together or facing individual decline. She emphasized that the rapid pace of global shifts has eliminated the possibility of a middle ground.
Metsola identified several critical challenges that require a unified European response, including the war in Ukraine, artificial intelligence, climate-related disasters like floods and fires, competitiveness, energy, immigration, security, and the cost of living. She argued that no single member state can effectively manage these issues in isolation.
During her speech, Metsola advocated for an agile European Union that prioritizes human dignity and ensures technology serves humanity rather than the reverse. She also noted the importance of creating efficient and fair systems to manage borders and combat criminal networks.
