Rimini police face staffing shortages as officials rethink deployment metrics

Police chief Vittorio Pisani has stated that resident population metrics are no longer suitable for determining police staffing levels. This assessment, shared by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Public Administration Minister Paolo Zangrillo, highlights the need to account for seasonal fluctuations in tourist destinations.

In Rimini, the Sap Rimini union reports a shortage of approximately 50 officers. While the current force consists of 300 agents, the union notes that 30 officers are expected to retire this year. Although 15 new agents arrived in August, union secretary Salvatore Giglia emphasized that these reinforcements do not yet offset the loss of experienced personnel or the time required for new recruits to complete their training, which is expected to conclude in December.
