Rimini records lowest number of bathing bans since 2011
Rimini recorded its lowest number of bathing bans since 2011 during the summer of 2026. Between May 1 and September 30, only 13 bans were issued along the Rimini coast, marking a 16-year record low.
Despite experiencing 157.7 mm of rainfall—significantly more than the 87.2 mm recorded in 2021—the impact on water quality was mitigated. Out of 51 instances where sea overflow systems were opened due to intense precipitation, only 25.5% resulted in a bathing ban.
Local authorities attribute these improved results to the implementation of the Optimized Bathing Safeguard Plan (Piano di Salvaguardia della Balneazione Ottimizzato). This strategic initiative has helped reduce the ratio of bans to overflow openings compared to previous years, such as 2011, when 85 out of 86 openings resulted in bans.
