The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 exercise concluded on 31 July after a five‑week multinational training period around the Hawaiian Islands. The 30th iteration involved 30 nations, roughly 30,000 personnel, 30 surface ships, five submarines and more than 190 aircraft, flying over 2,400 sorties and conducting more than 500 maritime training events.

Canada contributed over 800 service members, deploying the frigates HMCS Regina and HMCS Ottawa, the submarine HMCS Corner Brook and the motor vessel MV Asterix, together with Royal Canadian Air Force CP‑140 Aurora patrol aircraft and CH‑148 Cyclone helicopters. HMCS Ottawa fired two Mark 46 torpedoes, and a Canadian‑led team commanded a multinational task group that protected the U.S. carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. Canadian clearance divers, a Fleet Cyber Protection Team and Forces Health Services personnel also took part, the latter leading RIMPAC’s first multinational maritime tactical combat casualty‑care course and conducting real‑world casualty evacuations aboard USS Essex.

U.S. Navy Vice‑Adm. Jeff Jablon highlighted the exercise’s role in deterring aggression, noting the collective effort of allies—including Australia, Japan, South Korea, Spain and the Philippines—against regional security challenges.
