Rincón de la Victoria police chief suspects officer stole four service pistols

The Chief Inspector of the Rincón de la Victoria Local Police, Francisco Javier Casanova, has stated with “almost absolute certainty” that the theft of four service pistols from police facilities was committed by a member of the force. The disappearance was discovered during a routine annual inspection of the armory.

Of the five pistols that were supposed to be held in storage—having been previously turned in by retiring officers—only one could be located. The missing weapons were not assigned to any active-duty officers. Casanova described the incident as “extremely grave” and expressed concern regarding the whereabouts of the firearms.

A criminal investigation has been launched by the Guardia Civil. Simultaneously, a municipal administrative process is underway to determine internal responsibilities. Casanova has requested the opening of disciplinary proceedings for himself and a sub-inspector to address potential failures in oversight.
