Rincón Mayorista expands hard discount presence in Chile
Rincón Mayorista is expanding its presence in the Chilean hard discount market, recently opening its sixth store in Vitacura, Santiago. The new location spans between 350 and 450 square meters and features a mix of self-service areas for groceries and frozen goods alongside assisted sales for perfumery and baby products.
The company aims to reach 26 stores in the near term. Its business model targets both end consumers and merchants, offering tiered pricing based on volume, ranging from single units to closed boxes. This strategy seeks to differentiate itself from traditional hypermarkets by providing a more precise, localized product selection.
The expansion comes amid rising demand for low-price retail formats in Chile, driven by a 3.6% year-to-date increase in the Consumer Price Index (IPC). Rincón Mayorista enters a competitive landscape that includes Mass (owned by Intercorp) and Don Salva (owned by Cencosud).
